In 2014 I took an 8-week course to help with chronic pain, and found that I was learning to manage my life with chronic pain much better. The pain was still there, but I was less aware of it, less worried by it, and spent less time harking back to the good old days before it became a permanent fixture in my life. I’m embarrassed by how long it took me to realise that I could adapt the techniques I had learnt to managing my tinnitus! But I did. And it opened the gateway to a life where I live with tinnitus, but it doesn’t control me. And there are many moments I forget it’s there.
I knew I couldn’t keep this to myself when so many people are suffering with tinnitus. So I went on to qualify as a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher. And my job – my life’s vocation - is teaching mindfulness to fellow tinnitus travellers so they can just live with tinnitus, rather than suffer with it. To that effect I have created a Mindfulness-Based Tinnitus Management course.
An 8-week course, it offers to opportunity for those of us how live with tinnitus to earn how to use mindfulness techniques to cope with our tinnitus better. The courses are safe spaces where we can lean on each other and support each other, sharing challenges and successes in a confidential environment.
To date these have been held face-to-face, but from May 2020 I’m launching them online. These will be live courses run via Zoom – an online video platform. We will meet together once a week for 8 weeks, and be able to chat and support each other between sessions in a private Facebook group.
I am really excited about how this online course will enable tinnitus sufferers around the world to learn mindfulness techniques and support each other in their tinnitus journey. Want to be the first to find out when registration opens?
